With her daughter, Annjonette “Netta” Abrahamson and four grandchildren, Nancy “EllerBell” Eller, Angelo “Sonny Boy” Chavez, Leah “Kin Min” Williams and
Milena “Bear” Higgins at her side ended her courageous battle with cancer on May 6, 2012 at her home in Wellpinit, WA.
Cookie was born on Sunday, October 14, 1945 in Miles, WA.
She enjoyed shopping, crocheting, gardening, travelling, cooking, baking, decorating, junking, supervising family dinners, camping, picnicking, singing, crosswords and reading her newspaper.
She was known for her strength, willpower, love devotion, caring and giving ways.
She had various jobs throughout her life; she worked for the Old Davenport, National HomeCare and as a housekeeper.
But her #1 job she enjoyed the most was being a stay at home Mom for her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and neighborhood kids.
She lived in Spokane, WA for nearly 40 years before returning home to the Spokane Indian Reservation in 2005.
She met and married Claudie L. Higgins on December 11, 1976; they were married for 25 years before his passing in March 2002.
She was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church where she was a Deaconess.
Cookie attended a few Catholic schools before obtaining her GED in her late 30s.
She also attended S.C.C.
for a Certificate in Secretarial work.
She is survived by her children, Janey and Joseph Brooks of Odessa, TX, Michael Murray of Seattle, WA, Stephanie Higgins of Airway Heights, WA, Annjonette Abrahamson of Wellpinit, WA; stepson, John Higgins of Vancouver, WA; and her adopted daughter, Cheryl Hunter; brother, Andrew Isadore of Spokane, WA; 20 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, grandnieces, nephews and grandnephews, great-grandnephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; mother, Josephine Pascal; father, Merlin Murray; brother, Anthony Pascal; sisters, Celestine Ellefson and Isabelle Pascal; her Selah Jerome Pascal; aunts, Salena Pascal and Christine Russell; three stepchildren, J.B. Island, Ruthann Hamm and DonRay Higgins; niece, Ilene Baca; nephews, John Gimmel and Marty Ellefson; granddaughter, Charlie Jane and her son-in-law whom she loved dearly, Cary A. Abrahamson.
Her family would like to thank Cancer Care Northwest of Spokane, the Spokane Tribe of Indians, Indian Health Services of Wellpinit, Cancer Patient Care of Spokane, Health and Human Services of Wellpinit and the Wellpinit Senior Center for all their help and support with taking care of Nancy “Cookie Pascal” Higgins.
