Mom was born on March 9, 1934 to John E. and Marian F. Soehren in Mott, North Dakota.
She passed away on June 24, 2012 with her family at her bedside in Spokane, WA.
The Soehren family arrived in Spokane on November 4, 1944.
She graduated from Rogers High School in June of 1952.
Darlene married Gerald K. Ruhling July 8, 1955.
Mom was a stay at home wife and homemaker while raising their children.
She had a very good sense of humor and liked to laugh and smile.
Mom also liked long rides in the car, having just recently visited the Palouse Falls; a place she always wanted to see.
She also looked forward to her weekly ice cream party with Thomas “The Big Mac.”
Along with this she enjoyed her scrabble games and potato soup with Heather.
She was a charter member of the Krazy 8’s Square Dance Club and Octo Plus Squares.
She was an officer in both clubs in various capacities and served on the Western Dance Association Board.
Mom was an avid sports and activities follower of her family.
She kept score at Gerry’s softball games and watched all the children and grandchildren in their sporting activities and FFA.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, brother Donald D. Soehren and infant daughter Ardell Louise in 1961.
Darlene is survived by her husband Gerry; children Jack A. Ruhling of Anchorage, AK, Patrick E. Ruhling of Spokane, WA, Kay N. Kjack (Kal) of Fairfield, WA, and Sue E. Greene (Mark) of Spokane, WA; grandchildren Janell N. Gilmer (Chris) of Plummer, ID, Heather M. Kjack of Plaza, WA, Thomas M. and Nicole E. Greene both of Spokane, WA; brother Marvin F. Soehren (Helen) of Spokane, WA; sisters-in-law Bonnie Soehren of Spokane, WA, and E. Nadine Hermann of Milwaukee, OR; and cousin Geraldine Weiler of Otis Orchards, WA.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 27th, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Thursday, June 28th, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home.
A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, June 28th at 1:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home with a Graveside Service to follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.
