Hunter, Edwards split after memoir
Rielle Hunter said she and former presidential candidate John Edwards have ended their relationship.
Hunter told ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Tuesday that she and Edwards were still a couple until late last week, as details from Hunter’s memoir became public. The breakup was painful, but Hunter said Edwards will still be involved with their daughter, Quinn, who is 4 years old and lives with Hunter.
“We are a family, but as of the end of last week, John Edwards and I are no longer a couple,” Hunter said on Tuesday’s show. “We decided together to end it.”
Asked why the relationship ended, Hunter responded, “I think that’s private.”
In the book, “What Really Happened: John Edwards, Our Daughter and Me,” Hunter describes intimate details about her affair with Edwards, whose campaign hired her as a videographer, and sheds light on his thoughts as federal prosecutors mounted a case against him on illegal campaign contribution charges.
Big Ben shall be known as Elizabeth
The iconic Clock Tower of Britain’s Parliament – widely, though incorrectly, known as Big Ben – is being renamed in honor of Queen Elizabeth II, authorities said Tuesday.
The 315-foot-high structure, one of Britain’s most recognizable landmarks, will now formally be known as Elizabeth Tower following a campaign by lawmakers to mark the monarch’s 60 years on the throne.
The tower was completed in 1858. It houses a four-faced chiming clock and the famed 13.5 ton Big Ben bell. Over the years, people began calling the whole tower Big Ben.
Roberts boosts bone marrow registry
As Robin Roberts waits for a bone marrow transplant this fall, news of the morning show anchor’s illness is helping others who need treatment.
The national bone marrow donation registry Be The Match reported Tuesday the rate of new registrants has more than doubled since the “Good Morning America” anchor announced on June 11 that she has MDS, a blood and bone marrow disease.
Roberts, who will receive a bone marrow transplant from her sister, said her mother told her to “turn a mess into a message.”
“When I received this latest disappointment I did not know what the message would be,” she said, “and now I do.”
