Interviewed The St. Louis Rams interviewed Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski and Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Dennis Allen for their coaching vacancy while awaiting word from former Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher. The Panthers set a franchise record for total yards last season. Allen is in his first year as defen- sive coordinator in Denver.

Hired The Dallas Cowboys hired Bill Callahan as their new offensive line coach and listed him as offensive coordinator. Jason Garrett came to Dallas as offensive coordinator in 2007 and held on to that position after he became head coach midway through the 2010 season. Dallas also hired Jerome Henderson as its new secondary coach. Callahan replaces retiring offensive line coach Hudson Houck. Henderson replaces Dave Campo.

Announced Canadian freestyle skier Sarah Burke remained in critical condition after a successful operation to repair a tear to an artery that caused bleeding in her brain. Burke, a four-time Winter X Games champion in halfpipe skiing, injured herself while practicing on the halfpipe in Park City, Utah.

Selected The Seattle Sounders bolstered their defense by selecting Andrew Duran out of Creighton with the 15th overall pick in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft. Seattle later selected forward Babayele Sodade out of Alabama-Birmingham with the 34th overall pick. Duran was the Missouri Valley Conference defensive player of the year and was a second-team all-America selection in 2011. Sodade was a Conference USA first-team selection.

Added Toronto Maple Leafs forwards Phil Kessel and Joffrey Lupul have been added to the roster for the NHL All-Star game on Jan. 29 in Ottawa. Kessel is second in league scoring with 48 points. Lupul, his linemate, has 47 points. Also placed on the roster were NHL leading scorer Claude Giroux and Kimmo Timonen of Philadelphia; Chicago’s Jonathan Toews, Marian Hossa and Patrick Kane; Dustin Byfuglien of Winnipeg; Brian Campbell of Florida; and Jamie Benn of Dallas.

Accepted The widow of two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon made a rare appearance in accepting the BorgWarner Trophy he earned with last year’s victory. Susie Wheldon accepted the BorgWarner Championship Drivers’ Trophy on Wheldon’s behalf in a ceremony in Detroit.

Died Former Oklahoma State football coach Jim Stanley has died from cancer in Arizona at age 77. Stanley was head coach at OSU from 1973-78 and led the Cowboys to a 35-31-2 record.
