(Age 91)

Born December 31, 1920, in Blue Hills, Nebraska, Howard passed away February 14, 2012, in Liberty Lake, Washington.

He graduated from high school in Kapowsin, WA, in 1938.

He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1940, serving in Electron, WA.

He then became a ship fitter from 1941 to 1944 in Bremerton, WA.

He served in the US Army from 1944 to 1946 before attending WSC in Pullman, WA, graduating in 1951 with a BS in Agriculture.

He taught Voc Ag in Dayton, WA, for one year before moving to Moses Lake, WA, where he taught Voc Ag from 1952 to his retirement in 1976.

Howard was a long time member of the Methodist Church; he was an FFA advisor, and member of the Kiwanis of Moses Lake.


Howard was preceded in death in 1983 by his wife, Betty, the mother of his children.

In 1986 he married Mary Lou in Bothell, WA.

In 1988 they moved to Spokane Valley, WA, where they have lived until recently when they moved to Guardian Angel Homes, in Liberty Lake, WA.
Howard is survived by his wife, Mary Lou; son, Gene York of Moses Lake, WA; daughters, Beth VanAuken of Moses Lake, Linda York and Shelley York, both of Seattle, WA, and Debbie Visser of Arcata, CA; nine grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by Mary Lou’s children; sons, Ken and Mike Groethe of Oregon; daughters, Wendy Numata and Leslie Spurgeon of Spokane; their children and grandchildren; two sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.


A graveside service will be held March 2, 2012, at 2:15 PM, at the Eastern Washington Veterans Cemetery, 21702 W. Espanola Rd., Medical Lake, WA.
