Age 90

SAVITZ, Helen
(Age 90)

Entered into rest on February 12, 2012.

She was born on July 13, 1921, in Pendleton, OR to parents Switzler M. and Helen Turner.

Helen graduated from North Central High School in 1939 and continued her education at Whitworth College.

In 1955 she married Wallace Savitz and together they enjoyed nearly 40 years together before his passing in 1995.


Helen worked for several years as a fire insurance underwriter and later worked as a bookkeeper.

She then became a Medical Administrative Assistant at the Veterans Medical Center and retired as a Service Representative at the Social Security Administration.


Helen had been a member of North Hill Christian Church.

She was a lifetime member of Rainbow Assembly No.

3, served as Mother Advisor of Lilac Assembly of Rainbow for Girls, and received the Grand Cross of Colors.

Helen also served as the first Honored Queen of Bethel #7 Job’s Daughters and was a life member of the Bethel.

She was a life member and Past Matron of OES Chapter 163, life member and Past Queen of Daughters of the Nile Temple #6.

Through the years, Helen served as a PTA board member at Bryant Elementary, Salk Jr. High, and was the past president of the Tekoa Elementary PTA.

She was a former member of the Wandermere 18-hole golf club, and she enjoyed playing pinochle, canasta, bingo, cribbage, penny ante poker, and working crossword puzzles.


Helen is survived by sons, Ken (Kay) Savitz and Bill (Georgie) Savitz all of Spokane; daughter, Kathrine (Tom) Sundberg of Zillah, WA; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grand-children.


The family wishes to express their appreciation to the Holy Family Hospital staff for their excellent care.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 16 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday, February 17 from 9:00 a.m. to 12 Noon at Riplinger Funeral Home.

Private burial will be at the Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa, WA.

A memorial service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 9, 2012 at Lilac Plaza Retirement Community, 7007 N. Wiscomb St. in Spokane.
