Shadle Park girls knock off No. 1 Central Valley
The surging Shadle Park Highlanders put a Hert on the No. 1-ranked Central Valley Bears.
Hert made a basket with 9 seconds remaining to lift Shadle Park to a 54-53 upset of visiting Central Valley in Greater Spokane League action Tuesday.
Shadle overcame a seven-point deficit in the fourth quarter.
Hert got the winning basket off a pass from Delaney Orcutt. Hert finished with 15 points as Shadle improved to 11-6 overall, 10-5 in league. Winter Hayes had 11 points and Aleisha Hathaway had 10. Paige Reidt had six assists and three steals.
A key to the win was that Shadle finished with more assists (15) than turnovers (11).
Mariah Cunningham led CV (15-1, 13-1) with 15 points.
Gonzaga Prep 77, Rogers 26: Several Bullpups (12-4, 10-4) shared in the win at home as they moved into sole possession of second place.
Eight Bullpups combined for 23 assists. Freshman Laura Stockton led with five. Her sister, Lindsay, a senior, had a team-high 12 points and Cassie Anderson had 10 as all 11 Bullpups scored.
Talie Felice led Rogers (1-15, 0-14) with 11 points.
Lewis and Clark 56, Mt. Spokane 34: The Tigers (9-8, 9-6) got out to a 13-4 lead in the first quarter and didn’t look back at home.
Nakia Arquette led LC with 18 points and six rebounds. Joelle Tampien had five assists and five steals.
Mead 57, North Central 40: After an even first half, the Panthers (8-8, 8-6) pulled away with a big fourth quarter.
The Panthers outscored the visiting Indians (4-12, 4-10) 22-8 in the final period. Delaney Junkermier led Mead with 15 points, Jasmine Parker had 14 to go with 10 rebounds and six blocked shots and Jade Redmon had 14 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
Brianna King led NC with 14 points and Hailey Markham-Patti had 12.
Ferris 54, University 42: The visiting Saxons (6-10, 4-10) knocked the Titans (11-5, 9-5) out of second place by outscoring U-Hi 26-9 in the first half.
Cassidy Phillips led Ferris with 18 points, 10 rebounds and two blocked shots. Abby Liss added 15. Hallie Gennett led U-Hi with 19 points and seven rebounds and Kayleigh Valley had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
