Twenty-six bells rang out at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Spokane’s Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes, corresponding with the time a week earlier that gunman Adam Lanza entered Sandy Hook Elementary School and opened fire. Bells tolled across the nation, marking the lives of the victims.
Parishioner Carlotta Lavagetto read out the names of the dead. Bishop Blase Cupich then took the lectern, praying for the victims – and their killer.
“We ask you in your goodness to give eternal light and peace to all who died, innocent children barely out of infancy, heroic teachers and even the misguided gunman who brought this tragedy on our nation,” he said.
