Obituary: Heskett, John G.
After a prolonged illness, John died December 15, 2012, at Providence Sacred Heart Hospital in the company of his wife and four children.
John and his family moved to Spokane in 1950, where he attended St. Augustine Grade School and Gonzaga Preparatory School.
He went on to attend the University of Notre Dame, leaving for a period of time to serve as a medic in the United States Army Reserve.
Upon returning to complete his bachelor of the arts degree at Notre Dame, he met his future wife, Mary Ann Goodyear, who was attending Saint Mary’s College.
John and Mary Ann were married in Lake City, Iowa on October 1, 1966 and moved to Spokane.
John worked as a production supervisor at the Kaiser Aluminum Company and in sales at George Merriman, Inc. in Spokane.
John was a highly skilled craftsman and later worked tirelessly in the restoration of several old houses on Spokane’s South Hill.
As an avid outdoorsman, John took every available opportunity to enjoy hunting and fishing with his family, long-time friends and faithful canine companion, Thule.
He was particularly fond of spending time at his remote cabin on Lake Pend Orielle.
John is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary Ann; his four children and their spouses- Elizabeth Bouressa (Eugene, Oregon), John (Park City, Utah), William (Madison, New Jersey) and Bruce (Seattle, Washington); 11 grandchildren; his younger brother Roger and his wife Barbara (Spokane); and brother-in-law, Bill Goodyear and his wife, Karen (Chicago).
John was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Anne Heskett, and his youngest brother Bruce.
A memorial vigil will be held at St. Augustine Church at 6 PM on Wednesday, December 19th.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Augustine Church at 10 AM on Thursday, December 20th.
The family has suggested that memorial donations be made to the Catholic Charities Foundation, PO Box 2253, Spokane 99210 or Gonzaga Preparatory School, 1224 E. Euclid, Spokane 99207.
