Challenged The London Games may be over, but Britain’s Prince Harry isn’t letting Team USA get away with the swimming gold that easily. The royal challenged Ryan Lochte during the American swimming champion’s 28th birthday party Monday at a Las Vegas pool. The Las Vegas Sun reported the prince stripped down to his jeans and gestured for others to clear the way for the contest at the XS nightclub pool at the Wynn resort. The 11-time Olympic medalist won.

Extradited A tennis referee accused of beating her 80-year-old husband to death with a coffee mug is headed to Los Angeles to face the murder charge after being arrested in New York. Lois Goodman said nothing as LAPD detectives escorted her from a Manhattan court Thursday. She wore her navy-blue uniform for the U.S. Open, where she’d been set to work as a line judge. Goodman, 70, agreed after her arrest Tuesday not to fight extradition to California.

Hired Washington basketball coach Lorenzo Romar has added a second new assistant coach in a week after announcing the hiring of Lamont Smith. The school made the announcement Thursday, saying the hiring was still pending a background check. Romar also hired former Western Washington head coach Brad Jackson last week to replace Raphael Chillious, who left for Villanova. Smith has been on the staff at Arizona State for the last four years, but his connection with Romar goes much deeper. Romar gave Smith his first job as a graduate assistant at Saint Louis in 1999.

Returning Shot putter Valerie Adams is the only champion from the London Olympics who never received a gold medal, and she’s going to see about that today. The shot put winner says she’s handing over her silver at the International Olympic Committee headquarters in Switzerland and finding out about getting the gold that was taken by disgraced rival Nadzeya Ostapchuk. Ostapchuk later tested positive for a banned steroid and was disqualified. However, the Belarus athlete has pledged to appeal, making Adams wait for her prize. Adams said: “I don’t care what she does. I’m giving back my silver medal to get the gold.”
