My gracious, humorous, kind and gentlemanly father passed away this morning August 16th, 2012.

He will now join his dear Theresa.

Bud was in residence at Sullivan Park Care Center since October 2010 and was beloved there and very well cared for.

Marion McCay was born in Los Angeles, California May 8th, 1914 to Georgia Anna (Perkins) and Edward Solomon McCay.

He was the second of three children, an older sister Margorie and younger sister Minnie Alberta.

They began calling him “Buddy” which later became “Bud” and it stuck with him the rest of his life.

He was named Marion after his grandfather Marion Franklin McCay.

Bud attended grade school in Los Angeles and some of his High School classes at Polytechnic High School but he completed his studies and graduated from Durham High School in Durham, California, where he was senior class president and a tailback on the football team.

He was an english major but took all the shop classes he could.

His shop classes helped him land a job at a machine shop that his brother-in-law Joe Larson (Marjorie’s husband) worked at.

He also learned to weld.

Bud met his wife Theresa Decker at a dance in 1939 in Los Angeles and they were happily married on May 3rd, 1941 in Culver City, California.

Two and a half years later Bud and Terry had their first son Patrick “Rick” McCay, Three years later while living in Northern California, their second son, Bryan Edward was born.

The McCay family finally settled in the San Fernando Valley, California.

Bud work in machine shops and for General Motors.

Later he took a test to become a welder for The Los Angeles County Flood Control and was the number one applicant.

Bud worked for the County until his retirement at age 62.
In 1978 Bud and Terry moved north to Spokane, Washington where much of their family lived.

Here they lived happily for 30 years in retirement, occupying their time with dancing, gardening, cooking and canning and volunteering through their local church.

Bud is preceded in death by his wife Theresa and his son Patrick, his sisters, Margorie and Minnie Alberta.

He is survived by his son Bryan, his daughter-in-law Ann, grandson Thomas and his wife Rachel and his great-granddaughter, Mia Caroline.

Mass and Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 18th, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paschal Catholic Church, 2523 N. Park Road, Spokane Valley, WA with visitation beginning one hour prior to the Mass.

Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
