N. Idaho inmates dig through jail wall to escape

Associated Press
BOISE — Authorities say two inmates escaped from Benewah County Jail by digging through the wall of their cell and using their bed sheets to scale down the building. Officers located 40-year-old Todd Edwin Miller and 20-year-old Tyler James Walton on Thursday morning, several hours after their escape. News reports said that before their escape, Miller and Walton were being housed in the same cell as an inmate who had escaped twice from the jail last year. The St. Maries jail was built in 1920 and its walls, though 16 inches thick, are rotting. Authorities say Miller was in jail following a high-speed chase with police, while Walton was arrested on a probation violation stemming from a burglary charge. They now face additional escape charges.
