Exploring new horizons

Off on a cruise: In this photo taken July 2, 1966, half of Spokane’s delegation to the first Horizon Club Conference Afloat gets together to show off their special conference uniforms and make preparations for the three-week workshop-cruise through the Caribbean. They are, from left, Sylvia Sallquist, Lewis and Clark High School; Barbara Ann Powell, Holy Names Academy; Linda Clarkson, Lewis and Clark High School; Judy Hurd, Freeman High School; Linda Exley, Shadle Park High School, and Valorie Marschall, East Valley High School. They would fly with six others to New York and sail from there to San Juan, Puerto Rico, Cartagena, Colombia, and Kingston, Jamaica.

The Spokane Valley Heritage Museum, 12114 E. Sprague Ave., is open Wednesday through Friday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday, 1-4 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for seniors, $4 for students and $4 for children 18 and younger.
