Spokane Valley, Caldwell Perkins restaurants close; 29 workers lose jobs
Both the Spokane Valley Perkins Restaurant and a Perkins in Caldwell, Idaho, were closed recently by the Spokane company that operated them as franchises.
Nancy McDaniel, the principal owner in a four-person group that ran the restaurants, said both businesses “have been losing money for years.” The Valley store had reached the end of its franchise deal, she added.
The Perkins at Argonne and Mission streets opened in 1990. It closed last week. The Caldwell Perkins closed over the weekend.
The two locations’ 29 workers will get final paychecks by the end of the week, McDaniel said.
She said neither closure was related to the bankruptcy announced by Perkins & Marie Callender’s, the franchise provider for both restaurant chains. The closures don’t affect a Coeur d’Alene Perkins, she added.
A second company, Perk Restaurant Management, operates six franchised Perkins restaurants in the region, with McDaniel one of the owners. She said the North Division and downtown Perkins restaurants will not close.
