Chef in the Forest makes its return

Hauser Lake’s Chef in the Forest is back.

The landmark restaurant reopened recently, 13 months after it was destroyed by an electrical fire in December 2009.

Owners Debbie Mustered and her mother Jo Davis rebuilt Chef in the Forest on the same footprint.

The building looks the same on the outside and things are much the same in the kitchen, where Davis devotes herself to dishes made from scratch. The menu has all of the familiar favorites on it.

The restoration has consolidated dining to 18 tables on the main floor and the lighter wood, windows and a new gas fireplace give the restaurant a brighter feel, owners told The Spokesman-Review.

Mustered and Davis are the fourth owners of the restaurant, 12008 N. Woodland Beach Drive, which opened in 1977.

Hours are Wednesday and Thursday, 5:30 p.m. to close, and Friday through Sunday, 5 p.m. to close. It takes about 20 minutes to drive there from Coeur d’Alene and a half hour from Spokane.

Reservations are recommended by calling (208) 773-3654.

Williams Seafood set for spring migration

Williams Seafood and Wine is moving.

Owner Mike Offield says the longtime market will relocate to a new building at the corner of Ruby Street and Montgomery Avenue this spring.

Offield says he has been looking for a different location since he bought the business four years ago.

“We needed to be more centrally located so that we can serve everybody,” he says. “We have a lot of folks from west of town, Ritzville and Moses Lake who come in.”

The market opened in 1949 in downtown Spokane and moved to Spokane Valley in 1980. It has been tucked in there, behind Fred’s Appliance at Sprague Avenue and University Road, ever since.

The new store, 2118 N. Ruby St., will have room for bigger coolers and more seafood. Offield says he’ll also add to the already expansive wine and beer offerings.

Offield says he’ll announce the move on the business’ website. Until then, Williams Seafood and Wine is located at 10627 E. Sprague Ave. Reach the store at (509) 922-4868.

It’s open 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday.
