Mohr, Peone guide Deer Park to win

In a battle of early-season unbeatens, Deer Park got the best of its former Great Northern League opponent.

The Stags (2-0) jumped ahead early and held on to beat Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) 63-55 in a nonleague game Tuesday night at Deer Park.

The Stags’ lead swelled to 16 points in the second quarter, but the Eagles (1-1) closed the gap with a second-half rally.

Zach Mohr had 20 points and Uconn Peone added 17 points and five assists for the Stags. Lakeside was led by Conner Moffatt’s 20 points.

Pullman 54, Lewiston 45: Corey Langerveld had 18 points to guide the Greyhounds (1-0) to a win over the host Bengals (2-2). Austin Drake and Ben Pavish added 11 points apiece for Pullman.

East Valley 45, Colville 32: Weston Dotson scored 12 of his 14 points in the decisive second quarter as the Knights (2-1) ran past the host Indians (3-1). J.R. Henry had a team-high 15 points for Colville.

Sandpoint 59, Priest River 53: The Spartans’ (0-4) comeback attempt fell short in a loss to the host Bulldogs (1-3). Jackson Olin had 22 points and Ryan Schwartz added 16 to lead Sandpoint. Dylan Kurylo led a balanced Priest River attack with 10 points.

Lakeland 68, Riverside 41: The Hawks (1-1) forced Riverside (1-3) into 20 turnovers and routed the host Rams. Eric Cooper led three Lakeland players in double figures with 17 points. Jordan Wood tallied a game-high 18 points for Riverside.

Timberlake 48, Coeur d’Alene Charter 38: Johnny Harden scored 17 points as the Tigers pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat the host Panthers. Christian Pedersen had a team-high 12 points for Coeur d’Alene Charter.

Newport 67, Medical Lake 60: Jake Wiley had 25 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks to lead the Grizzlies (3-0) past the visiting Cardinals (0-3). Newport’s Jeron Konkright added 15 points on 6-of-6 shooting, including 3 of 3 from the 3-point line.

Freeman 56, Lake Roosevelt 54: Mitch Vander Linden tipped in a missed shot with 0.7 seconds to play to give the Scotties (1-2) a win over the visiting Raiders. Vander Linden scored 18 of his game-high 20 points in the second half to lead Freeman.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 74, Odessa-Harrington 58: Dylan Hartz notched a triple double as the Broncos (2-1) beat the visiting Titans (0-2). Hartz had 22 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. Many of Hartz’s assists were to his older brother, Drew, who finished with 18 points. Justin Hunt led Odessa-Harrington with 20 points.

Curlew 39, Inchelium 27: The Cougars (1-2) clamped down in the fourth quarter to cushion their lead and cruised to a win over the visiting Hornets (0-1). Jazz Brisbane had a team-high 11 points for Curlew and Aaron McCullough came off the bench to snag 10 rebounds. The Cougars had 12 more rebounds than the Hornets.

Springdale 87, Columbia 51: The Chargers’ offense was clicking on all cylinders in a win over the host Lions (0-2) at Hunters. Rodney Abrahamson had 24 points and Chase Fitzgerald added 15 for Springdale (2-0). Dominick Marquez led Columbia with 21 points.

Wilbur-Creston 44, Mansfield 42: Trystan Rosman’s only field goal broke a tie with 10 seconds to play and gave the Wildcats (2-0) a win over the visiting Kernels. Freshman Colton Magers had 16 points and 15 rebounds to pace Wilbur-Creston.

Northport 73, St. Michael’s 54: Frederik Verhaeghe scored nine of his game-high 28 points in the third quarter and the Mustangs (2-1) pulled away to beat the visiting Warriors (1-3). Verhaeghe also had six rebounds and six steals. St. Michael’s was led by Gabe Durazo and Chris Shelley, who scored 16 apiece.

Valley Christian 66, Selkirk 15: The Panthers (3-0) put away the host Rangers (0-4) early in a win in Ione. Craver Small tallied 16 points and Bo Piersol added 13 for Valley Christian. Matt Emerson pulled down 10 rebounds to guide Selirk.

Chewelah 70, Republic 14: The Cougars (2-1) held the Tigers (0-2) scoreless in the second half and routed visiting Republic. Ben Jonstone had 22 points and eight rebounds and Derrick Smith and Andrew Pugh added 12 points apiece for Chewelah.

Northwest Christian 84, Liberty 41: The Crusaders (3-0, 1-0) opened league play with a dominating win over the host Lancers (1-2, 0-1). Kwinn Hanson had 26 points as Northwest Christian made an incredible 38 of 45 total field goals. Dylan Salsbury led Liberty with 15 points.

Davenport 69, Kettle Falls 34: The Gorillas’ (2-0, 1-0) second-half switch to a 3-2 zone defense proved to be a difference in a win over the host Bulldogs (1-2, 0-1). Davenport’s Joey Gunning exploded in the third quarter with 15 of his game-high 27 points.
