The Spokane Shock will promote offensive coordinator Andy Olson to head coach, The Spokesman-Review has learned.
Olson was offered the position late Friday night and he immediately accepted, sources said. An official press conference is expected Monday.
Olson, 28, beat out at least three other candidates for the job. Others known to have interviewed were former Shock offensive coordinator Matt Sauk, Chicago offensive coordinator Sherdrick Bonner and long-time arena football coach Chris MacKeown. Sauk is the offensive coordinator for the Utah Blaze.
Olson joined the Shock coaching staff when former head coach Rob Keefe fired offensive coordinator Fred Biletnikoff Jr. after the team’s 0-2 start. It was the first coaching assignment for Olson, a Shock wide receiver in 2008-09.
Attempts to contact Olson were unsuccessful.
