Paving work will close 4 downtown intersections

Second Avenue and four major intersections in downtown Spokane will be closed at times this week for paving work as part of a reconstruction of Second. The intersections are on Second at Lincoln, Monroe, Walnut and Maple streets. The closures begin on Tuesday morning on Second from Howard Street to Jefferson streets until Tuesday evening. Also on Tuesday, the intersections of Monroe and Lincoln at Second will be closed until the evening commute for repaving. On Thursday, the intersections of Walnut and Maple will be closed for intersection paving there until late afternoon. Second from Jefferson to Sunset Boulevard will also be closed then. Second has been torn up and intersections have been restricted since the project started on Aug. 2. Second has been open to one lane of traffic, but that will be shut for the repaving work, city officials said. Detours are recommended on Washington, Stevens, Division and Browne streets for north-south traffic, and on First, Third and Boone avenues for east-west traffic. Boone is being recommended to commuters to allow them to avoid potential congestion in the downtown area near the closures. Completion of the project is expected in early to middle November. Additional closures may occur later this fall.
