Bulldogs strike Gold in opener

Anthony Gold rushed for 244 yards and added a 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to help boost Sandpoint (1-0) to a 35-14 victory over East Valley (0-1) in nonleague action in Sandpoint.

Brandon Hawkins added one touchdown through the air and another on the ground for the Bulldogs, while Shane Quinn led the Knights with 113 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

Moscow 60, West Valley 20: Justin Parkins carried the Bears’ (1-1) offense, rushing for 118 yards and three touchdowns in their win over the Eagles (0-1) in Moscow. The Bears’ defense held WV scoreless in the first half, helping them build a 36-0 lead.

St. Maries 28, Medical Lake 27: Brad Anderson scored with 7 seconds remaining on a 35-yard pass and then ran in the winning two-point conversion to push the Lumberjacks (1-1) past the Cardinals (0-1) in St. Maries. Anderson finished with 132 yards and two TDs for the Lumberjacks.

Colville 29, Lakeland 19: Colton Davis rushed for 81 yards and Sawyer Dardwell added 79 yards through the air as the Indians (1-0) held off the Hawks (0-2) in Rathdrum.

Cheney 21, Priest River 7: The Blackhawks (1-0) knocked off the Spartans (0-1) in Priest River. No further information was available.

Pullman 26, Lakeside 12: Tyler Langerveld and Brendan Barrington connected three times for touchdowns as the Greyhounds (1-0) upended the Eagles (0-1) in Pullman. Langerveld went 15 of 29, amassing 150 yards and four TDs through the air. He connected with Barrington six times for 74 yards.

Deer Park 7, Chewelah 0: In a defensive game that featured just 377 yards of total offense between the teams, it was the Stags’ (1-0) Colton Mead who made the difference against the host Cougars (0-1). The DP quarterback threw for 135 yards and the game’s only score, a 40-yard strike to Jordan Jorgensen in the second quarter.

Lewiston 25, Clarkston 13: The Bengals (1-0) beat the Bantams (0-1) in Lewiston. No further information was available.

Riverside 31, Timberlake 14: The Rams (1-0) upended the Tigers (0-2) in Spirit Lake. No further information was available.

Freeman 20, Bonners Ferry 6: Running back Josh Richardson carried the ball 13 times for 86 yards and a touchdown and Cody Unfred added two passing touchdowns and the Scotties (1-0) shut out the Badgers (0-1) for three quarters, en route to a victory in Freeman.

Omak 47, Kettle Falls 7: The Pioneers (1-0) struck early and often, scoring their 47 points in the first three quarters before allowing the host Bulldogs (0-1) to get on the board late in the fourth quarter. Brendan Aguilar had 155 yards passing and ran for two scores to lead the Pioneers.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 68, Wellpinit 34: Derrick and Drew Isaac combined for six of the Warriors’ (1-0) eight touchdowns as ACH opened up a 30-0 lead over the Redskins (0-1) after one quarter in Wellpinit. A.J. Kieffer finished with 287 all-purpose yards and three TDs for the Redskins.

Cusick 50, Selkirk 8: Tyler Edwards threw for four touchdowns and 314 yards on 13-of-19 passing to lead the Panthers (1-0) over the Rangers (0-1) in Cusick. Shem Norton added seven catches for 148 yards and two TDs for the Panthers.

St. John-Endicott 24, Odessa-Harrington 20: Cole McCanna rushed for a pair of touchdowns and caught two more as the Eagles (1-0) outlasted the host Titans (0-1). Jared King led the Titans with 76 yards passing and 125 rushing.

Tekoa-Oakesdale/Rosalia 14, Springdale 6: D.J. Brown’s interception returned for a touchdown in the fourth quarter lifted the Nighthawks (1-0) to a win over the Chargers (0-1) in Springdale. Brown finished the game with three interceptions for TOR.

Columbia-Inchelium 36, Wilbur-Creston 16: Trevor Anderson rushed for 45 yards and three touchdowns, while Gabe Jones added 150 yards rushing and a touchdown in the Timberwolves’ (1-0) victory over the Wildcats (0-1) at Hunters.

Tri-Cities Prep 58, Colton 28: The Wildcats (0-1) had no answer for Jaguars running back Anthony Hinkson, who rushed for three touchdowns, two of which came during a 20-point second quarter to give the Jaguars (1-0) a 20-12 lead. Josh Straughan and Taylor Spence hooked up for four touchdowns for the Wildcats.

Salmon River 52, Lacrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus 26: Host Salmon River (1-0) beat the Tigercats (0-1).
