Plow, tow crews head for Browne’s Addition

Plow crews are going to clear the narrow residential streets in Browne’s Addition today and Wednesday, and city officials said that vehicle owners must comply with emergency parking restrictions or risk a towing bill.

North-south streets in Browne’s Addition will be plowed today, so vehicles should be parked off the streets or moved temporarily to an east-west street.

Plows return on Wednesday to complete plowing on east-west streets, which will require that vehicles be moved off those streets during the work.

Streets in Browne’s Addition are narrow, which is forcing the city to take the emergency steps, including ordering vehicles in the way to be towed.

Elsewhere, the city had 50 pieces of equipment removing snow Monday. Work Monday was mainly on residential streets, where residents are asked to move vehicles to the sides of streets with even-numbered addresses.

Under a stage 2 snow emergency, owners are required to comply with temporary parking rules. So far, compliance has been spotty at best.

No parked cars are allowed on arterials or transit routes. Parking is restricted downtown from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.

The city also is asking residents not to push or throw snow into the streets. It only makes the problem worse. Snow should be piled or directed onto lawns, open lots and parking strips.
