Vandals women roll past EWU
Yinka Olorunnife had game highs of 21 points and 10 rebounds Wednesday to power host Idaho to a 75-50 nonconference women’s basketball win over Eastern Washington at Memorial Gym.
The Vandals (2-0) shot 11 of 22 on 3-pointers while the Eagles hit 4 of 23. Julie Piper led EWU (1-2) with 15 points on 7-of-10 field-goal shooting.
• Kama Griffitts led five players in double figures with 19 points, and Tugce Canitez added 16 points and nine rebounds as visiting North Idaho (5-0) defeated Sheridan (Wyo.) College in nonconference play.
Volleyball
Denise Van de Mortel had 25 assists and three aces, and Terran Poindexter added 11 kills as Gonzaga (4-26) swept visiting Eastern Washington 25-18, 25-17, 25-14 in nonconference play at Martin Centre.
Lindsay Niemeier had 13 assists and Jacque Brown 10 digs for the Eagles (7-19).
Men’s soccer
Gonzaga placed a record nine players on the All-West Coast Conference team, including senior midfielder/defender Stefan Thor Eysteinsson.
Goalkeeper Ryan Caballero, defender Greg Carter and midfielder Nick Hamer (Mead High) made the all-freshman team. Colin Flynn, Philippe Garre, Collin Harrison, Nick Love and James Partee were given honorable mention.
Cross country
Washington State junior Justin Englund received an all-region award for placing 25th in the men’s 10,000 meters at last Saturday’s West Regional at Springfield, Ore.
