Police describe woman’s attacker
Spokane police on Tuesday released a description of a man who they say sexually assaulted a woman at knifepoint near Regal Street and 54th Avenue on Monday. They say a 5-foot-8-inch white man in his early 20s with a thin, muscular build wore baggy jeans and a dark checkered hooded sweatshirt, with the hood over his head.
Spokane police released that description as detectives continued to investigate the assault, which reportedly occurred just after 6 p.m.
An 18-year-old woman was walking with her infant child south on Regal toward 54th from Southeast Boulevard and 29th Avenue. She told police the man came out of a dark area, confronted her with the knife and threatened to harm her baby.
The infant was not injured, said Officer Jennifer DeRuwe, spokeswoman for the Spokane Police Department.
The woman called police and was taken to a local hospital. Her assailant fled on foot, police said.
Detectives urge anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at (509) 327-5111 or (800) 222-TIPS.
