Planned New Mets general manager Sandy Alderson plans to hire a new manager by the winter meetings and has added Ken Oberkfell to his list of candidates. Having met with five candidates from within the organization to replace the fired Jerry Manuel, Alderson began speaking with outsiders Tuesday, beginning with Boston bench coach DeMarlo Hale. Rangers hitting coach Clint Hurdle and new Toronto bench coach Don Wakamatsu are scheduled for today.
Transferred Paralyzed Rutgers football player Eric LeGrand has been transferred to a rehabilitation center in Piscataway, N.J., after being hospitalized with a high fever. The 20-year-old defensive tackle was sent back to Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in West Orange on Monday.
Ordered A Las Vegas court ordered boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. to stay away from his former girlfriend and their two sons after prosecutors say he hit her and threatened to beat his children if they called 911.
Fined Hot-tempered Kyle Busch was fined $25,000 by NASCAR for his obscene gesture, and the driver again apologized for losing his temper. Busch was also placed on probation through Dec. 31.
Barred Prosecutors in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., were barred from using an illegal blood test in the DUI manslaughter trial of former major league ballplayer Jim Leyritz to calculate how drunk he was at the time of a fatal December 2007 crash.
Died Former All-America basketball player Quintin Dailey, who also played 10 seasons in the NBA, including for Seattle, and made the 1982-1983 All-Rookie team, has died in Las Vegas. He was 49. The star died naturally of hypertensive cardiovascular disease. Dailey was West Coast Conference MVP in 1981-82 for San Francisco. Dailey worked as a supervisor at a community center in Las Vegas for at-risk youth.
