‘Tat’ bigotry unfair
Spiritual. Cultural. Symbolic. Expression in the form of ink.
Despite the growing rate of popularity in body art, tattoos have remained morally unfit for culture’s standards, creating obstacles in the search for employment. Many companies have “no visible tattoo” requirements.
Body art doesn’t necessarily affect an employee’s overall performance. Thus, when an employer turns down an applicant for having a tattoo, they may be potentially throwing away their best employee. And although many aspects of our culture have changed, this particular trend remains a menace to the conforming eyes of the elitist society. In other words, tattoos are perceived as unfit to society’s transgression. Although in various cultures tattoos may have originated from gang symbols, like many other things these days, the meaning has changed.
