Neuroscience center adds four physicians

From Staff Reports

Several physicians have joined Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center’s neuroscience center.

Dr. Madeleine Geraghty, who has directed the hospital’s stroke center since 2007, is now practicing exclusively at Sacred Heart and is leading a transient ischemic attack clinic that focuses on patients who arrived at the hospital’s emergency room and have been discharged.

A TIA is considered a “warning stroke” according to the American Heart Association. TIAs can produce strokelike symptoms and often lead to diagnoses that can prevent major strokes later.

Neurologist Dr. Timothy Powell also is establishing his own private practice focusing on epilepsy on the Sacred Heart campus.

And the hospital announced Monday it has hired two doctors specializing in neuroscience care that includes stroke, seizures, Parkinson’s disease, brain injuries and other traumas. Dr. Esther Rawner has already started, and another physician will join the staff this summer.
