Rogers listed among nation’s best schools

The Spokesman-Review

Rogers High School has been added to Newsweek’s list of the 1,600 best U.S. high schools.

The magazine’s list was released last week but is revised as additional entries are reviewed. Rogers, which ranked 1,380th, joins Spokane Public Schools’ North Central (577th), Lewis and Clark (814th) and Ferris (1,202nd) high schools.

Newsweek picks the best high schools in the country each year based on the number of Advanced Placement courses offered and tests given.

The announcement comes as more than 300 teachers from around the country converge on Spokane to better learn how to teach AP courses, according to Spokane Public Schools.

“Spokane was one of just eight locations from around the world approved as a new AP Summer Institute site for 2010,” said Kristy Mylroie, a district spokeswoman.
