Cruise’s Grossman will hit big screen
Tom Cruise is bringing his foul-mouthed, hairy-handed Hollywood producer character Les Grossman back to the big screen.
Paramount Pictures and MTV Films say they’re developing a film around the fictional character that Cruise brought to life in 2008’s “Tropic Thunder.”
The 47-year-old actor reprised the role at Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards.
Cruise and Ben Stiller are among the producers of the film.
‘Cove’ controversy
Fifty-five journalists, academics and film directors in Japan have condemned intimidation and threats that led movie theaters to cancel screenings of “The Cove,” a documentary about the slaughter of dolphins in a Japanese village.
Three movie theaters that had been scheduled to show the film later this month canceled their plans last week after receiving a flood of angry phone calls and warnings of protests by Japanese nationalists, who criticize the film as a betrayal of Japanese pride.
The American movie, this year’s winner of the Academy Award for best documentary, features undercover footage of the dolphin hunt and shows efforts by Ric O’Barry, a former trainer for the “Flipper” TV series, to stop the slaughter of dolphins for food.
Game plans
The “Back to the Future” and “Jurassic Park” movie franchises will be featured in a new series of video games.
Telltale Games is creating episodic titles based on the popular Universal Studios film trilogies, which spawned several games in their heyday in the ’80s and ’90s but have been absent from the interactive realm.
The as-yet-untitled Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PC and Mac games are set to be released this winter.
