Julyamsh to showcase Native American culture

The Jacklin Arts and Cultural Center, 405 N. William St. in Post Falls, will kick off Julyamsh, an annual cultural event celebrating Native American art and culture from internationally known American Indian artists.

The event will begin on Saturday with the Vision Seekers Youth Art workshop, held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dave Browneagle will present featherwork; George Hill will share sculpting with soapstone; Ric Gendron will teach participants acrylic on canvas; and Coeur d’Alene tribal elder Cliff SiJohn will be presenting storytelling.

The workshop is for children ages 10 to 14 and is $30 per person. Cost includes lunch. Pre-registration is required by calling (208) 457-8950.

The Jacklin center will also have an Artist and Buyer’s Reception on July 22, from 5 to 7 p.m.

The event will feature live entertainment by bluegrass musicians Mark and Kimberly Holt, a silent auction, a raffle, hors d’oeurves, and more.

The event is free and open to the public but reservations are requested by Monday.
