Lake City upends University 71-63

Alyssa Kacalek led three Lake City players in double figures with 18 points and the Timberwolves (4-0) knocked off University (1-1) 71-63 in nonleague action Friday in Coeur d’Alene.

Sydney Butler added 15 points and Jenna Lewis 11 for LC. The Titans were led by 22 points from Cassie Shillam.

West Valley 54, Central Valley 46: Hannah Love’s 18 points and 12 rebounds led the way for the Eagles (1-0) in their season opener against the Bears (0-1) at WV. The Eagles outscored CV 18-2 in the opening quarter and never trailed.

East Valley 41, Sandpoint 27: Alicia Ashby finished with nine points and after struggling through the first half, the Knights (1-0) outscored the Bulldogs (1-3) 29-12 in the second half to pull away at EV. Maggie Kirscher scored a game-high 13 for the Bulldogs.

Newport 44, Priest River 23: Taylor Lewis and Miranda Frederick combined for 24 points, Hailey O’Dell added seven points and 11 rebounds and the Grizzlies (2-0) went 11 of 15 from the free-throw line to beat the Spartans (0-3) in Priest River.

Lakeside (WA) 51, Medical Lake 42: Taylor Flemming tallied a team high 15 points and Jamie Campbell added 12 for the Eagles (1-0), who used a 17-point second quarter to erase a seven-point deficit against the Cardinals (0-1) in Nine Mile Falls. Amelia Cook led all scorers with 20 points for ML.

St. Maries 47, Orofino 29: Tia Asbury led all scorers with 16 points and added six steals and Hailey Hudson tallied nine points and 10 rebounds as the Lumberjacks (1-2) took a 17-point lead into halftime against the Maniacs (0-1) and never looked back in St. Maries.

Chewelah 50, Kettle Falls 47 (OT): Brittney Wuesthoff and Samantha Beamer each tallied 14 points and Wuesthoff’s 3-pointer with 20 seconds remaining sealed the win for the Cougars (1-0) against Bulldogs (0-2) in Chewelah.

Columbia (Burbank) 46, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 30: Katie Braezeale led all scorers with 13 points and Sarah Rude added 10 as the Coyotes (1-0) knocked off the host Broncos (0-1).

Rosalia 58, Liberty 55 (OT): Briann Maley finished with a team-high 17 points and Tayler Nelson scored 12 as the Spartans (1-0) outscored the Lancers (0-1) 7-4 in the overtime period in Spangle. Katra Browning led the Lancers with 28 points.

Oroville 40, Republic 38: Taylor Sarmiento scored 10 points and Kelsey Hughes added 10 more, including a free throw on a technical foul late in the game, to give the Hornets (1-0) at two-point lead with 6 seconds remaining in Republic. The Tigers (0-1) were led by Tori Orestad’s 12 points.

Curlew 59, St. Michael’s 37: Chanel Somday scored 16 points to lead all scorers and the Cougars (1-0) used a 16-2 edge after the first quarter to cruise by the Warriors (0-2) at St. Michael’s. In the game, the Cougars forced 32 turnovers, while only committing 17.

Garfield-Palouse 34, LaCrosse-Washtucna 21: Taylor Redmond led with 17 points, Kaycie Adair added 10 points, eight rebounds and five assists, and the Vikings (1-0) outrebounded the visiting Tigercats (0-1) 34-24.
