Signed Former Ohio State star Maurice Clarett has signed a one-year contract with the Omaha Nighthawks of the United Football League. Nighthawks general manager Rick Mueller said Clarett met with team officials and UFL commissioner Michael Huyghue. Clarett needed a judge’s permission to tryout for the Nighthawks over the weekend.

Scheduled Buffalo Bills running back Marshawn Lynch is scheduled to test his sore ankle in practice today. The results will help determine whether he’ll play in the team’s preseason finale at Detroit. Coach Chan Gailey was pleased with how Lynch ran sprints at the end of a team walkthrough.

Joined United States midfielder DaMarcus Beasley has joined Bundesliga club Hannover on a two-year contract. The 28-year-old was available on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Scottish champion Rangers at the end of last soccer season. His move to Germany reunited him with U.S. teammate Steve Cherundolo, the Hannover club captain.

Agreed The New York Rangers have agreed to terms with free agent forward Tim Kennedy. The 24-year-old had 10 goals and 16 assists last season with Buffalo in 78 games. He also had a goal and two assists in the NHL playoff for the Sabres.

Re-signed The Phoenix Coyotes have re-signed right wing Lee Stempniak to a two-year contract. Details of the contract were not released. Stempniak had 14 goals and four assists in 18 games with the Coyotes last season after he was traded from Toronto.

Suspended USADA has suspended sprinter Mark Jelks for two years after he violated the doping agency’s rules governing out-of- competition tests. Jelks twice failed to file a notice of his location and missed a test during an 18-month period.
