Ashlock captures city title

Dan Ashlock shot a 74 on Sunday at The Creek at Qualchan to finish with a 1-under 212 and win the Spokane City Championship by five strokes.

Ben Nelson and Bob Witte tied for second place at 4-over 217. Witte shot a final-round 75, and Nelson shot a 76.

Jim O’Rourke won the senior championship, shooting a 74 on Sunday and finishing at 4-over 217. Paul Murphy was eight shots back after shooting a 78 in the final round for a 12-over 225 total.

Friday’s first round was at Esmeralda, and Saturday’s round was at Downriver.

Women’s soccer

Sarah Rhodes scored the tying and winning goals as Gonzaga finished the Montana Tournament in Missoula with a 3-2 win over host Montana.

Rhodes scored her third goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 26th minute to tie the match at 2-all, then scored in the 70th minute for the game-winner.

Sheridan Jones opened the scoring for the Bulldogs (2-1-1) in the 19th minute.

Gonzaga opens its home schedule Friday against UC Irvine at 4 p.m.

• Alyssa Mautz’s goal in the 62nd minute gave No. 9 Texas A&M a 1-0 win over No. 21 Washington State at the Aggieland Invitational in College Station, Texas.

The Cougars, who were outshot 26-8, dropped to 1-3.

WSU travels to Utah this weekend, facing BYU on Friday and Weber State on Sunday.

• Eastern Washington suffered its first loss of the season, losing 4-0 to Cal State Fullerton in Fullerton, Calif.

The Eagles dropped to 0-1-1.

Eastern makes its home debut Friday against Seattle University at 4:30 p.m., and hosts UC Irvine on Sunday at 11 a.m.

• Idaho lost to Wyoming 2-0 in Laramie, Wyo., with both goals knocked in by Vandals defenders on Wyoming crosses in the second half.

The Cowgirls outshot the Vandals (1-2) 16-5.

Idaho travels to Pocatello this weekend to defend its Governor’s Cup title. The Vandals play Idaho State on Friday and Utah Valley on Sunday.

• Lauren Robideau scored twice in the second half to give Eastern Oregon a 2-0 victory over North Idaho College in Coeur d’Alene. The Cardinals (1-1) were outshot 19-6.

NIC hosts the Cardinal Classic this weekend, taking on Chemeketa Community College on Saturday and Treasure Valley CC on Sunday. Both games are at 2:30 p.m.
