Bad association

In the July 29th S-R editorial (“In appeals court race Siddoway stands out”), the writer asks, “What do we know about Dunham and Siddoway? We know that he’s a Republican who belongs to the National Rifle Association and the American Legion, and she’s a Democrat who supports the American Civil Liberties Union.”

Voters should learn that Roger Baldwin was a founder of the American Civil Liberties Union and he was an original officer, along with such notables of Communist Party history as Elizabeth Gurley Flynn, Louis Budenz and William Z. Foster.

Baldwin’s continuous radical career and cooperation with communists and anarchists and socialists is of more than 50 years duration. He was a member of the subversive un-American Industrial Workers of the World (Wobblies) and a convicted draft dodger during World War I.

I would think more than twice about endorsing a candidate who supports the un-American Civil Liberties Union.

Vote for Harvey Dunham for the state Court of Appeals, Division III.
