Arrested Browns nose tackle Shaun Rogers was arrested Thursday at Hopkins International Airport in Cleveland after a loaded gun was found in his carry-on luggage. Rogers, who had been at the team’s suburban training facility in recent days taking part in a voluntary offseason program, was stopped at a security checkpoint on Concourse C when officials spotted a loaded .45-caliber hand gun in his bag.

Fired Washington assistant women’s basketball coach Judy Spoelstra will not have her contract renewed for the 2010-11 season. The former Washington State Cougar player previously was the head coach at Oregon State from 1995-2005 and earned Pac-10 coach of the year honors in 2000.

Released The Chicago Bears released veteran defensive end Alex Brown, after trying and failing to trade Brown following the signing of Julius Peppers.

Signed Punter Jeff Feagles, 44, has agreed to a one-year deal with the New York Giants. The Giants also signed free-agent safety Deon Grant, who played the past three seasons with Seattle, and rescinding their tender to restricted free-agent safety C.C. Brown.

Hired The Houston Cougars hired James Dickey as basketball coach, putting him in charge of a program for the first time since he was fired from Texas Tech in 2001. He replaces Tom Penders, who resigned less than two weeks ago.

Declared Wake Forest forward Al-Farouq Aminu declared for the NBA draft and announced he will hire an agent, ensuring his departure with two years of eligibility remaining. The 6-foot-9 forward averaged 15.8 points this season and, with 10.7 rebounds per game, became the first Wake Forest player since Tim Duncan in 1997 to lead the Atlantic Coast Conference in rebounding.

Traded Infielder Julio Lugo was traded from the St. Louis Cardinals to the Baltimore Orioles for a player to be named or cash.

Convicted Former NBA player Kirk Snyder was convicted of breaking into a neighbor’s home in the middle of the night and beating him up in his bedroom. A Warren County, Ohio, jury found the 26-year-old former University of Nevada star guilty of aggravated burglary, felonious assault and assault.
