Eastern vs. Portland State
KICKOFF: 1:05 p.m. at Seattle, Qwest Field
Records: Portland State 2-6, 1-4 Big Sky; EWU 5-3, 4-2
Radio: 1510-AM
Overview: Storylines abound as Eastern tries to snap a three-game losing streak against the Vikings in this “Showdown in the Sound” matchup in the 65,000-seat home of the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks. The Eagles learned earlier in the week that the postseason ban the NCAA had slapped on them back in February has been lifted, and it will be interesting to see how they react in the wake of such good news. Still, a loss to PSU, or either of the other two teams left on EWU’s schedule, would render the NCAA’s decision meaningless. Adding to the intrigue is the uncertainty of the status of Vikings quarterback Drew Hubel, who threw for a school-record 623 yards and five TDs in last year’s 47-36 win over the Eagles in Portland. Hubel has missed PSU’s last two games with a knee injury and still had some swelling in his knee earlier in the week. EWU also has some concerns about its quarterback, Matt Nichols, who has been battling the flu. The Eagles get a much-needed bye week after today’s game.
