In brief: Clippers spoil Daye’s first NBA start
Basketball: Chris Kaman scored 26 points and Baron Davis added 25 to help the Los Angeles Clippers top the Detroit Pistons 104-96 in Auburn Hills, Mich.

Rookie and former Gonzaga player Austin Daye made his first career start in place of injured Ben Gordon and scored a career-best 13 points.
•Grizzlies hang on to beat Blazers: Zach Randolph scored 21 points and Marc Gasol and O.J. Mayo added 19 each and Memphis withstood a second-half rally by Portland to beat the Trail Blazers 106-96 in Portland.
•Nets lose 16th straight: The New Jersey Nets dropped their 16th straight game to open the season, moving within one of matching the worst start in NBA history with a 109-96 road loss to the Sacramento Kings.
•Cavs fall to Wallace, Bobcats: Gerald Wallace had 31 points and 14 rebounds while outplaying LeBron James, and the Cleveland Cavaliers looked disjointed in Shaquille O’Neal’s return from injury in a 94-87 loss to the host Charlotte Bobcats.
•Jamison reaches milestone in Wizards’ win: Antawn Jamison scored 24 points to reach the 16,000-point mark and the visiting Washington Wizards beat the Miami Heat for the first time in seven tries, 94-84.
•Duke tops UConn: Seventh-ranked Duke (6-0) won the NIT Season Tip-Off with a 68-59 victory over No. 13 Connecticut (4-1) in New York.
•Marquette upsets Michigan: Lazar Hayward scored 22 points and Jimmy Butler had 17 to lead Marquette past No. 15 Michigan 79-65 at the Old Spice Classic in Orlando, Fla.
Darius Johnson-Odom added 14 points for Marquette (6-0), which will play Florida State in Sunday’s title game.
•Utah rallies to upset Illinois: Shawn Glover banked home a runner in the lane at the buzzer and Utah rallied from a 16-point halftime deficit to beat No. 20 Illinois 60-58 in the third round of the Las Vegas Invitational.
•Portland upsets Minnesota: T.J. Campbell scored a season-high 23 points to lead Portland to a 61-56 upset of No. 22 Minnesota in the 76 Classic at the Anaheim (Calif.) Convention Center.
Robin Smeulders added 13 points and Nik Raivio grabbed a season-best 11 rebounds for the Pilots (5-0), who will play No. 8 West Virginia for the tournament championship Sunday night.
•Garcia leads Seattle past Presbyterian: Charles Garcia scored a game-high 22 points to go with eight rebounds to lead Seattle (4-2) past Presbyterian (0-5) 67-63 in the third round of the Las Vegas Invitational in Las Vegas.
Seattle took the lead for good at 43-41 with 12:49 left in the game.
The lead grew to 57-49 before a late Presbyterian run. But Garcia’s left side jumper from 16 feet made it 67-63 and sealed the win for the Redhawks.
•USC women upset Texas: Briana Gilbreath scored 13 points to lead four players in double figures and help Southern Cal upset No. 13 Texas 61-54 in the Paradise Jam in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.
Blackhawks’ win streak snapped
Hockey: Teemu Selanne scored twice on the power play, defenseman Nick Boynton also connected with the man advantage and Jean-Sebastien Giguere posted his first shutout of the season, leading the Anaheim Ducks to a 3-0 home victory that snapped the Chicago Blackhawks’ eight-game winning streak.
•Brodeur sets minutes record: Jamie Langenbrunner and Zach Parise scored shootout goals to make goaltender Martin Brodeur a winner on the day he became the NHL’s all-time minutes leader in the visiting New Jersey Devils’ 2-1 win over the Boston Bruins.
Brodeur surpassed Hall of Famer Patrick Roy for the most minutes played.
The 37-year-old Brodeur now has 60,280. Roy played 60,235.
Davydenko advances in ATP World Finals
Miscellany: Nikolay Davydenko grabbed the last semifinal spot at the ATP World Tour Finals by beating Robin Soderling 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-3, knocking defending champion Novak Djokovic out of the London tennis tournament at the conclusion of the round-robin competition.
Davydenko will face top-ranked Roger Federer in today’s first semifinal. Soderling takes on Juan Martin del Potro.
•Las Vegas wins first UFL championship: Graham Gano kicked a 33-yard field goal in overtime to give the Las Vegas Locomotives a 20-17 victory over the Florida Tuskers in the inaugural UFL championship game in Las Vegas.
Florida won the coin toss and had possession first in OT, but Isaiah Trufant (Eastern Washington University) intercepted a Brooks Bollinger pass on the Tuskers’ 19-yard line.
•Blame tops Einstein in Clark ’Cap: Blame drew clear in the stretch and held off Misremembered by a neck to win the $400,000 Clark Handicap at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky.
The 3-year-old colt beat the likes of Einstein, among the nation’s top older horses.
•Fluke wins in emotional upset: Fluke beat Ever a Friend by a length in an emotional upset to win the $300,000 Citation Handicap race at Hollywood Park in Inglewood, Calif.
The Brazilian-bred Fluke, the sixth choice at odds of 9-1, was trained by Humberto Ascanio, who took over the late Bobby Frankel’s stable after the Hall of Fame trainer died on Nov. 16.
