Three female pedestrians hurt in separate incidents

Two female pedestrians suffered serious head injuries in separate incidents that occurred about the same time Friday night, the Spokane Police Department reports.

In a third incident, a 49-year-old woman was sent to a downtown hospital with severe head injuries after being hit by a car in a Spokane Valley convenience store parking lot on Saturday.

A 2003 Kia Spectra driven by a 43-year-old Spokane woman pulled into the Tesoro to Go store at 6021 E. Trent about 5:20 p.m. Saturday. When the car began backing out of the stall shortly after, it bumped a woman walking with a man. The woman fell to the pavement and hit her head.

Alcohol was a factor in the fall, said Spokane Valley Police Officer Chan Erdman in a news release. No citations were issued.

In one of the Friday night incidents, witnesses told police a motorist was driving north on Division Street about 10:30 p.m., lost control and hit the concrete median, where the car became stuck near Walton Avenue. The driver, estimated to be about 40 years old, was hit by a passing car when she tried to walk across Division while using her cell phone.

Drugs and alcohol were not a factor, police reported.

In the other Friday incident, witnesses told police a pedestrian, about 50 years old, was found on northbound Browne Street at Spokane Falls Boulevard. Based on witnesses’ descriptions, police found the vehicle a few blocks south and east and saw the occupants running from the scene.

A Spokane County Sheriff’s Office helicopter helped chase down and catch the driver and a passenger, who had injured their legs while attempting to climb fences, police said.

The driver, Cameron B. Olsness, 29, of Spokane, was booked on suspicion of vehicular assault and felony hit-and-run charges.

It was unclear whether the victims remained hospitalized Saturday. Their identities were not released.
