Requested The World Anti-Doping Agency on Thursday asked the sport’s highest court to ban U.S. cyclist Tyler Hamilton for life for doping. The former Olympic champion accepted an eight-year ban from the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency last month after he admitted taking a steroid in an herbal remedy for depression.

Sentenced Texas baseball coach Augie Garrido was sentenced to four days in jail for a drunken driving conviction, though he might not serve any time. The coach said he entered the guilty plea quickly to own up to a “terrible mistake in judgment” that he said could have endangered others. Garrido was fined $500 and had his driver’s license suspended for 90 days after the misdemeanor first-time offense.

Suspended The Phoenix Mercury have suspended guard Diana Taurasi for two games without pay after she was cited on drunk-driving related charges. Taurasi will miss Saturday’s game against Detroit and next Wednesday’s game against Minnesota.

Fined Houston Dynamo forward Brian Ching has been fined $500 by Major League Soccer for criticizing the officiating in a recent game through his Twitter account. Ching didn’t play in Houston’s 2-1 loss in Seattle on Saturday because he was playing for the United States later that night in a Gold Cup match in Foxborough, Mass.

Sold out The Los Angeles Galaxy says its upcoming game against AC Milan is sold out for David Beckham’s first home game of the season with the MLS team. Beckham rejoined the Galaxy this week after completing a five-month loan with AC Milan a couple months ago.

Fired Formula One team Toro Rosso has fired driver Sebastien Bourdais. Bourdais, a four-time Champ Car series champion in the United States, had been unimpressive in the 2009 season, his second in F1. Toro Rosso said a replacement driver would be chosen before the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Selected The Washington Redskins have selected Kentucky defensive end Jeremy Jarmon in the third round of the NFL supplemental draft. He is the first player Washington has ever taken in a supplemental draft. The Redskins will give up their third-round pick in the 2010 NFL draft.
