Mues an asset for UI

The Spokesman-Review

When Lloyd Mues became vice president for finance and administration at the University of Idaho in 2007 he didn’t know how important his leadership would be. Mues brought a welcome new era of fiscal accountability, integrity and stability. If Mues had been at UI in 2003, the University Place scandal in Boise would not have occurred.

Mues is not the kind of administrator with flexible principles who goes along to get along. His performance is in sharp contrast to what happened during the 2003 scandal.

During the past tumultuous year he provided outstanding proactive leadership in what was one of the most severe budget crunches ever faced by the university. He placed UI in a better position for coming out of the budget crisis than many of its peer institutions.

Dr. Duane Nellis, who became UI’s 17th president on July 1, wants to do everything he can to prevent future reductions in state funding from undermining UI’s core mission. One of President Nellis’ strongest assets is Vice President Mues, an outstanding administrator with a successful and proven track record of responsible fiscal management.

Dr. Don Harter

Professor emeritus, University of Idaho
