Two arrests made in fatal stabbing
Spokane police have arrested two men in connection with the Friday stabbing death of a 22-year-old man.
Michael L. Summa, 19, was booked into Spokane County Jail on second- degree murder charges in the death of Shannon Cochran, who was stabbed during a fight early Friday near East Garland Avenue and North Helena Street. Cochran died at a Spokane hospital.
Police received a tip about 8:15 p.m. Sunday that Summa was in a house on the 1100 block of East Bismark Avenue. A police dog named Var, on his last night of work after eight years of service, located Summa in the basement, a news release said. Summa was arrested, then treated at a hospital for injuries related to the canine capture.
Also arrested was Daniel Ray Wood, who was booked into Spokane County Jail on a charge of rendering criminal assistance, according to police spokesman Officer Brian Eckersley.
Three people are still wanted for questioning: Christopher Hooper and Tylor T. Buttolph, both 18-year-old white males, and a 16-year-old white female whose identity is being withheld by The Spokesman-Review because she’s a minor wanted solely for questioning.

Power restoration comes and goes
Efforts to restore power to hundreds of Inland Power and Light customers in Lincoln County are “on again, off again,” a company spokeswoman said Monday.
On Monday morning, Spokane-based Inland Power had restored power to all but about 190 customers, four days after freezing fog and drizzle knocked out service to as many as 1,700. By 4 p.m., that number had climbed again to 640 customers without power, said Inland Power and Light spokeswoman Catherine Markson.
“As the weather changes we’ll get things restored, and then something will snap and we’ll lose a whole other line,” she said.

Deer Park
Reward offered in ATM theft
Crime Stoppers of the Inland Northwest is offering a cash reward for information leading to two men who stole an ATM from a Deer Park convenience store early Sunday.
The men who broke into Levi’s Mini Mart at 109 Fourth St. also stole two cash drawers containing money and prepaid phone cards, Crime Stoppers said in a news release.
A security video of the break-in showed a white truck with a matching canopy and tinted windows, possibly a late ’90s Ford two-door extended cab pickup.

Food stamp requests spike
Food stamp applications in Washington rose 42 percent in November, taxing the state’s ability to process the requests, legislators have been advised.
Leo Ribas, director of the Community Services division, told a legislative panel that because of the crush, the typical time needed to approve a food stamp request in the Basic Food program has increased from eight days to 14.
