Benefit with music tonight at Panida
The Panida Theater, 300 N. First Ave. in Sandpoint, will host a benefit for cancer survivors Sarah Lindstrom and Scott Daily tonight at 6 p.m.
Local musicians the Jimmy Legs will kick off the benefit show at 7 p.m., followed by the StoryTelling Company, and the evening will wrap up with Carl Rey and the Blues Gators.
The event will include a silent auction, and beer and wine will be available.
Funds raised from the show will help Lindstrom and Daily pay for their medical bills and other expenses they have incurred.
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at F.C. Weskills, Eichardt’s Pub, Grill and Coffee House, and at the door.

MLK holiday closes some offices
Some offices and services will be affected by Martin Luther King Day on Monday.
City, county, state and federal offices, as well as post offices, will be closed. Most banks also will be closed.
State liquor stores will be open. Kootenai County city and rural garbage pickup will not be affected.
SNR offers school day off camps
Specialized Needs Recreation will hold two Camp All-Stars School Day off Day Camps, Monday and Jan.23. The camps will be held at Sorensen Elementary, 311 N. Ninth St. in Coeur d’Alene, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The fun will include movies and pizza on Monday and bowling on Jan. 23. Sack lunches will be required on Jan. 23.
Cost is $12 per person and scholarships are available.
Transportation will be provided from the Trading Post in Post Falls, with morning pick-up at 8:30 a.m. and afternoon drop-off at 3:30 p.m.

Blessing of the waters Sunday
The annual Great Blessing of the Waters, celebrated by Orthodox Christian Churches worldwide, will be celebrated Sunday at City Beach in Sandpoint at 1:30 p.m. Members of Holy Myrrhbearers Orthodox Church in Bonners Ferry and other area Orthodox Churches are inviting the public to join them in the annual ritual.
The service commemorates the baptism of Jesus Christ in the Jordan River and culminates in a threefold blessing when the priest throws the cross into the water. In many places, the third toss is the signal for any willing divers to jump in to retrieve the cross and receive the blessing for the year.

Class for women in transition offered
North Idaho College’s Center for New Directions is offering a four-week Welcome to Opportunities class for women who are experiencing a major change in their lives. The class will run Mondays through Thursdays, Monday through Feb. 12, 9 a.m. to noon, in Siebert Hall, Room 111.
The transitions may vary from be the ending of a marriage or relationship, a change in physical or emotional health, loss of a job or a business, recovery from addiction or empty-nest syndrome.
The course will cover self-esteem, future goals, self-sufficiency and networking.
The class is free, but pre-registration is required.

Banff film festival Jan. 25 at resort
The Coeur d’Alene Resort will host the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour on Jan. 25 at 5 p.m.
The festival is showing all new films, including “Journey to the Center” and “Crux,” part of their Best Film on Mountain Sports series.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the North Idaho Centennial Trail Foundation and the Satipo Kids Project in Satipo, Peru.
Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door, and may be purchased at Vertical Earth, 308 Coeur d’Alene Ave., and the Camera Corral, 515 E. Sherman Ave. Tickets may also be purchased at Zip’s Drive-ins in Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls, Rathdrum and Hayden.
Music Walk Friday in downtown
On Jan. 23, The Coeur d’Alene Arts and Culture Alliance will hold its annual Music Walk in downtown Coeur d’Alene, beginning at 5 p.m.
The event will include local musicians, sharing their talents in coffee shops, restaurants, galleries and other businesses downtown.
The Music Walk will be held every fourth Friday through April.
