Cushner has game-ending hit for Shadle
Coeur d’Alene’s Jessica Kraft stroked a solo home run in the fourth inning and added a two-run double in the fifth Wednesday afternoon, leading the visiting Vikings to a 4-2 Inland Empire League softball win over Post Falls.
Amber Coburn struck out nine and scattered four hits to get the win for CdA (9-4, 3-4 IEL), while Blake Meredith took the loss for the Trojans (12-3, 6-3), despite also striking out nine.
•Greater Spokane League: Haylee Cushner scattered five hits while striking out five batters and also singled home a game-ending run in the fifth inning as Shadle Park blasted visiting Lewis and Clark 13-3 in a makeup game shortened by the 10-run rule.
Allie Burger drilled three hits for the Highlanders (7-2), while teammate Megan Skillingstad drove in four runs with a pair of hits.
LC (2-7) was hampered by four errors.
Baseball
Inland Empire League: Visiting Coeur d’Alene spotted Post Falls a three-run first-inning lead, but then roared back to dismantle the Trojans 16-3.
Devon Austin and Jackson Seaman each drove in three runs for the Vikings (11-6, 6-3), who also got three hits and a couple of RBIs from Matt Cade.
Cole Amende had two hits for Post Falls (3-10, 2-7).
•Greater Spokane League: Central Valley’s Daniel Hammersley struck out six and pitched a five-hit shutout, and teammate Will Richards belted two hits and drove in a pair of runs as the Bears (9-2) hung a 5-0 loss on visiting Shadle Park (3-8). … Ryne Leonard scattered six hits and struck out 12 in leading visiting Mt. Spokane to a 9-4 triumph over North Central. Tyler Jackson had two hits and scored three runs for the Wildcats (6-5), while Taylor Hustad paced NC (1-8) with three hits, including a pair of doubles.
Track and field
Greater Spokane League: Lewis and Clark’s Chris Ennis won the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4 minutes, 30.6 seconds and captured the 3,200 (10: 30.9) to key a 1-2-3 Lewis and Clark finish in that event as the Tigers boys raced past Shadle Park 90-55 and Rogers 114-25 in a league triple dual on Rogers’ track.
Shadle Park got wins from Matt Barnes in the 110 hurdles (16.9) and 300 hurdles (42.9) to dump Rogers 102-35.
In the girls competition, LC swept the relay events to throttle Shadle Park 86-64 and Rogers 125-20.
The Highlanders, who got wins from Amy Before in the 800 meters (2:25.1), long jump (15 feet, 2 inches) and triple jump (31-2 ¾), beat Rogers 118-27
•Inland Empire League: Steven Casley won the 100 meters in a time of 11.95 and also took first in the 200 (23.58) and 400 (51.94) in leading host Coeur d’Alene to an 86-49 win over Lakeland in a boys dual.
The Vikings won the girls dual 81-58, despite the splendid individual effort of Camille Reynolds, who won the 100 meters (12.74) and 300 hurdles (46.50).
