Lockdown imposed after jail officer hurt

Spokane County Jail was briefly locked down Friday after a corrections officer was injured during an encounter with an inmate.

Daniel Leonetti, a member of the jail’s Critical Response Team, was injured when he and other team members attempted to remove an inmate, who wasn’t identified, from his cell for transportation to court.

Jail Commander Jerry Brady said the incident occurred when a judge issued a “drag order,” commanding deputies to bring an unwilling inmate to the courtroom.

Leonetti, 30, “appears to have a neck injury and a tingling in his fingers,” the jail commander said.

An ambulance was summoned to the jail and the facility was placed on lockdown – with inmates ordered back to their cells from activity areas.

Leonetti was taken to a hospital for treatment. His condition wasn’t immediately available.

Brady said he couldn’t provide the name of the inmate involved, but he likely will be charged with assault.

It wasn’t known if the uncooperative inmate was taken to court after the melee.
