Bearfoot bluegrass

Bluegrass fans have a chance to share an intimate evening with award winning Alaskan bluegrass band Bearfoot.

The group of former camp counselors was named Telluride Bluegrass Champions – an honor shared with the likes of Dixie Chicks and Nickel Creek.

While incorporating back-alley Southern blues with jazz colorings and Appalachian leanings into a sophisticated bluegrass bounce, Bearfoot is built on its cunning blend five distinctive lead vocals.

Bearfoot appears in a house-style show on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Rick Singer Photography Studio, 415 ½ W. Main St. Tickets are $20, available at Rick’s studio. Space is limited. For more information, call 838-3333.

Monuments farewell weekend

Local instrumental prog-rock band Monuments is breaking up, for real this time.

The band is calling it quits due to the departure of bassist Ben Emery. Monuments had fizzled during the summer when guitarist Erick Sanchez moved away, but the trio held the long-distance relationship together for a few shows.

Monuments says goodbye with back-to-back shows this weekend, including a show tonight at 8 p.m. at Empyrean Coffee House, 154 S. Madison St., with Joel Smith, Hockey, Jennie Pots and Power und Beauty. Cover is $7 for the all-ages show.

Monuments’ Saturday show, originally scheduled at the now-closed Zombie Room, has been moved to The Swamp, 1904 W. 5th Ave., with Belt of Vapor and Space Age Fur. Cover is $5 for the 21-and-older show. Music starts at 10 p.m.
