Ellen returns with a new look

Ellen DeGeneres premiered her sixth season as host of “Ellen” on Monday with two notable changes: a new studio and a wedding ring.

The syndicated talk show returned with a taped episode from the show’s new set on the Warner Bros. studio lot in Los Angeles. It was DeGeneres’ first show since marrying actress Portia de Rossi in August.

“This is my first show as a married lady,” DeGeneres, 50, announced, flashing her wedding ring. The audience gave her a standing ovation.

DeGeneres and Rossi were wed in an intimate ceremony at their Beverly Hills home. The Emmy-winning host and Rossi had dated for four years and announced that they would marry after the California Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriages in May.

“Who knew John McCain and I would have something in common,” she joked. “We both chose female running mates.”

He’ll still drive you crazy

He was a giant of 20th-century film. And now the Stockholm City Council has named a street and a square in the city after Ingmar Bergman. On Monday Vice Mayor Mikael Soderlund dedicated a city square as Ingmar Bergman’s Plats. Bergman, whose dark, introspective films included “The Seventh Seal,” “Cries and Whispers” and “Fanny and Alexander,” died in July 2007 at 89.

‘She’s Gone’ and so was he

Students at Pennsylvania’s North Penn High School got a lunch-hour diversion on Monday with, and a life lesson from, school alumnus John Oates. Half the pop duo Hall and Oates (with Daryl Hall) and a member of the Class of 1966, Oates – who sang, signed autographs and told stories – said he is “living proof that you can go to North Penn High School and go somewhere after that.”

He was trying a new dance step

Oasis was halfway through a set at the Virgin Festival on Toronto’s Olympic Island Sunday night when a man rushed the stage and pushed guitarist Noel Gallagher down. Security personnel quickly apprehended Daniel Sullivan, 47, from Pickering, Ontario. “Everyone was shocked. The fan came out of nowhere – no one even saw him run on stage, people just saw Noel fall and then people started yelling,” said concertgoer Twyla DeMello.

He’s a big little boy

Minnie Driver has given birth to a baby boy. Henry Story Driver was born in Los Angeles on Friday and weighed in at a hearty 9 lbs., 12 oz, her publicist Jessica Kolstad said.

Driver, 38, stars on the FX cable TV series “The Riches” with Eddie Izzard. She has not revealed the name of the father.
