Chiefs fall in shootout
CHILLIWACK, British Columbia – Jeff Einhorn’s goal in a shootout Wednesday gave the Chilliwack Bruins a 2-1 victory over the Spokane Chiefs in Western Hockey League play.
Chilliwack won the shootout 3-2 after eight rounds. Mitch Wahl and Levko Koper scored for the Chiefs during the shootout, while Ryan Howse and David Robinson scored for the Bruins.
Koper’s third goal of the season, 1 minute and 19 seconds into the game, gave Spokane a 1-0 lead. The goal came after a turnover in the Bruins’ zone and gave Koper scores in three consecutive games.
Chilliwack tied the score at 1:50 of the second period on Howse’s power-play goal. Howse shot from the low left circle, over the shoulder of James Reid.
Reid, who made his Chiefs debut, finished with 32 saves. The Chiefs are in the midst of playing four games in five nights, so they rested No. 1 goaltender Dustin Tokarski.
Spokane (3-1-0-1, seven points) picked up a point for the shootout loss and leads the Everett Silvertips by two points in the Western Conference’s U.S. Division.
Chilliwack is 2-1-1-0.
The Chiefs return home to play the Silvertips at 7 p.m. on Friday.
