Twins 9, Royals 8: At Kansas City, Mo., Justin Morneau hit a leadoff homer in the 10th inning and Minnesota, after rallying for five runs in the ninth, handed the Royals their 10th straight loss. Royals reliever Joel Peralta gave up a tying three-run homer to pinch-hitter Craig Monroe with two out in the ninth, then watched Morneau hit his first pitch of the 10th over the fence in right field.

Yankees 4, Orioles 2: At Baltimore, Jason Giambi homered and drove in two runs to back an effective pitching performance by Andy Pettitte, and New York beat the Orioles to avert a three-game sweep. Yankees closer Mariano Rivera got three outs for his 13th save in 13 tries.

Rays 5, Rangers 3: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Matt Garza pitched a career-high eight innings, allowing two runs on four hits, to lead Tampa Bay over Texas. The Rays have won nine of their last 11 series, including six straight at home. Texas was 8-0-1 in its previous nine series.

White Sox 6, Indians 5: At Cleveland, Carlos Quentin drove in three runs, including a go-ahead, two-run double in a three-run seventh inning that led Chicago over the Indians. The Central Division-leading White Sox have won five of six against Cleveland in a nine-game span and 11 of 14 overall. Chicago has beaten the Indians exactly 1,000 times.

Blue Jays 2, Athletics 1: At Oakland, Calif., Alex Rios hit an RBI double in the ninth that helped secure the win for Roy Halladay as Toronto beat Oakland for the first time in five tries this season.

Tigers 6, Angels 2: At Anaheim, Calif., Armando Galarraga came within two outs of his first complete game and shutout in the majors, and Marcus Thames hit two homers as Detroit beat Los Angeles.
