Beckham bends one
David Beckham is doing his best to dazzle American soccer fans with his precision free kicks. He also is making sure they don’t forget about them back in England.
Beckham’s perfect curling ball set up John Terry for the go-ahead goal in the 38th minute, and England outclassed the United States 2-0 in an exhibition game at Wembley on Wednesday.
While England may not have been good enough to qualify for the 16-team European Championship next month, it easily dispatched the Americans.

Mariners trade Baek
The Seattle Mariners traded former part-time starting pitcher Cha Seung Baek to the San Diego Padres for right-hander Jared Wells.
Seattle designated Baek for assignment May 21, after he went 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA in 10 games, mostly as a long reliever. Baek, 28, was signed by the Mariners as a free agent out of South Korea in 1998 and re-signed as a minor league free agent in 2006. He has a career record of 10-9 in 37 games.
Wells, 26, has allowed two runs in two games this month for San Diego in his major league debut. He had nine saves for Triple-A Portland before his call-up. He potentially could start for Seattle – San Diego shifted him to the bullpen only last season. The Padres selected Wells in the 31st round of the 2002 draft.
The Mariners optioned Wells to Triple-A Tacoma.
