Medical Lake

Fireworks come with regulations

The city of Medical Lake would like to remind visitors and residents of the city ordinances regarding fireworks surrounding the Fourth of July holiday.

One of the few cities in Spokane County that still allow the sale and use of fireworks, there are strict regulations that must be met if you don’t want a ticket.

Fireworks can only be sold from 9 a.m. starting July 1 and can’t be sold from 11 p.m. to 9 a.m. You can’t buy fireworks in Medical Lake after 8 p.m. on July 4.

Regarding the use of fireworks, they may be discharged only between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. on July 4.

Fireworks cannot be discharged on any city-owned property, including school property, buildings, parks or parking lots.

It is also important to clean up any debris the fireworks may leave behind.

Doug Ross, the city administrator of Medical Lake, said that after last year’s festivities, street cleaning crews were out in the city for an extra three days to clean up the mess.

Mostly, however, Ross said there is worry that many people come from out of town just to buy and discharge legal fireworks in Medical Lake because they can’t get them in their hometowns. He said this practice is discouraged by the city.
