Seinfeld set for return to Spokane
Jerry Seinfeld will return to the INB Performing Arts Center for his fourth visit in just a little more than six years.
Showtime will be June 26 at 7 p.m.
This comedy legend did his stand-up act on the same stage in April 2002, October 2003 and January 2006, when it was still called the Spokane Opera House.
And he knocked ‘em dead every time.
Seinfeld is one of the acknowledged masters of stand-up comedy, and he has devoted more time than ever to his act since the “Seinfeld” sitcom ended its run 10 years ago.
Tickets go on sale Friday through TicketsWest outlets (509-325-SEAT, 800-325-SEAT, www.ticketswest.com).
‘Phantom’ costumes
A selection of costumes from the national touring production of “Phantom of the Opera” are on display on the third floor of River Park Square.
Here’s what you’ll see:
“A blue taffeta dress worn by the character Christine.
“A backstage dressing gown worn by Christine.
“A grand Egyptian-style costume worn by the character Carlotta in the opera “Hannibal.”
“An elegant black-and-silver dress worn by Carlotta.
Why the display? To whet the local appetite for the touring production of “Phantom” coming to the INB Performing Arts Center, Oct. 8-25.
A big KISC
KISC-FM (KISS-FM, 98.1) scored a lopsided victory in the market’s Arbitron radio ratings, released earlier this month.
It was almost three share points ahead of the second-place station, KHTQ-FM (Rock 94½). KISC has been thriving in the ratings ever since KXLY-FM flipped to a Triple A format, leaving it as the only mainstream adult contemporary station in the market.
Here are the top six stations in the winter rankings, based on quarter-hour share, copyright Arbitron, Inc.:
1. KISC-FM, adult contemporary, 8.2.
2. KHTQ-FM, active rock, 5.4.
3. KIXZ-FM, country, 4.9.
4. (tie) KEYF-FM, oldies, 4.7.
4. (tie) KKZX-FM, classic rock, 4.7.
4. (tie) KQNT-AM, news-talk, 4.7.
Arbitron ranked a total of 24 stations in Spokane.
Jay Wendell Walker
Jay Wendell Walker, the Spokane comic and winner of the prestigious 2006 San Francisco Stand-Up Comedy Competition, brings his act to CenterStage on June 7.
Walker is a respected veteran of the national and West Coast stand-up circuits. This will be a cabaret show with doors opening at 7 p.m. for the cabaret (limited menu available) and the show beginning at 8.
CenterStage is at 1017 W. First. Tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for military and seniors, through the box office at (509) 747-8243, ext. 1, or TicketsWest outlets.
Your presence requested
Here’s something different coming to the Northern Quest Casino: “Tony ‘n’ Tina’s Wedding,” June 3-14.
This is the popular improvisational dinner theater show in which the audience plays the role of “guests” at the raucous Italian-American wedding of the fictional couple.
You get to see the wedding and then have dinner at the reception. You may be eating dinner with the “priest” or members of the wedding party, or even Tony or Tina themselves.
The show began in New York a couple of decades ago, and has been popular ever since. There have been several previous incarnations in Spokane.
Tickets are $50, available by calling (509) 481-6700 or through TicketsWest.
Go Baroque
Speaking of role-playing, here’s another opportunity for those who like to play dress-up and speak in accents.
The annual Royal Fireworks Festival in Riverfront Park is seeking actors, artisans, crafters and entertainers for this year’s event, which runs July 27.
The festival is a re-creation of 1749 England, but also includes visitors from all over the world.
An open audition will be Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Opportunity Presbyterian Church, 202 N. Pines Road in Spokane Valley. For information, e-mail Ronita Taylor at ronitat@comcast.net.
