Achievements: WSU names scholarship winners

Local students recently received scholarships and student awards at Washington State University.

Scott Wenke was awarded a $3,000 Crimson Regents Scholarship, a $2,000 Glenn Terrell Presidential Scholarship, and a $2,000 College of Engineering Scholarship. He is a student at Ferris High School and the son of Steve and Cindy Wenke of Spokane.

Rachel Hamilton received a $2,000 Pete Harman Scholarship. She graduated from West Valley High School in 2005 and is the daughter of Brian and Donna Hamilton of Spokane.

Rachel Van Dinter was awarded a $1,000 Jenkins Advertising Memorial Scholarship. She is the daughter of Sharon Cochran of Spokane and is a 2005 graduate of Lewis and Clark High School.

Ashley Golman received a $500 Rom J. Merkin Entrepreneur Scholarship. She is the daughter of Dale Golman of Mica, and the late Tracy Golman. She graduated from Freeman High School in 2006.

Cassandra Krum received a $2,000 Claude and Kathleen Irwin Regents Scholarship. She graduated in 2006 from West Valley High School, and is the daughter of George and Janelle Krum of Spokane.

Melaina Hamlin received a $3,000 University Achievement Award and a $1,500 Science Opportunity Scholarship. She is the daughter of Keith Hamlin and Kathi Cook, both of Spokane, and is a student at Ferris High School.

Nikole Hahn was awarded a $4,000 Burgess Brothers Memorial Scholarship and a $930 Howard and Shirley Strobel Scholarship. She graduated from East Valley High School in 2004 and is the daughter of Sherri Hahn of Spokane.

Kevin Takisaki received a $940 William C. and Charlotte M. Kruegel Scholarship. He is the son of Greg and Doreen Takisaki of Spokane, and graduated from Gonzaga Preparatory School in 2004.

The following students received the 2008 President Award: Tia Ahlf, Cheney; Kathryn Mathison, Pullman; Lynda Ginieis, Nikki Hahn, Benjamin Johnson, Kasey Webster, all of Spokane.

“Eastern Washington University awarded local students scholarships for academic achievement.

James Degenhardt received a Rob and Randi Nielson Scholarship for $1,125. He is a graduate of East Valley High School, and the son of Robert and Muree Degenhardt of Spokane Valley.

Deseure Deberry was awarded a Trustee’s Scholarship for $2,500. She is the daughter of Martin DeBerry and Edith Williams and graduated from Ferris High School.

Jamie Stensgar, a graduate of Ichelium High School, Inchelium, Wash., received a Minority Business Education Scholarship for $6,300. Stensgar’s parents are Mike Stensgar and Merna Seymore of Inchelium.

Holly Pippenger was awarded a $1,000 Alumni Scholarship. She is a graduate of Shadle Park High School, and is the daughter of Dale and Lori Pippenger of Spokane.

Ashley Stuivenga was awarded an Alumni Scholarship for $1,000. She is the daughter of Mike and Susie Stuivenga of Colbert and graduated from Mead High School.
